As we see the start of a new decade it seems like a perfect time to reflect on our successes of the past and contemplate where we’re hoping to be in the coming years.
For Select Medical the 2010’s has been a period of massive change and continuous growth.
At the start of the decade we had a transparent, dual-track approach. We manufactured our own support surfaces, but also pressure relieving surfaces for some well-respected healthcare companies under their own labels.
Then in 2015 we took the huge step to invest in a re-brand…. of our company, website and surfaces, allowing us to really focus on what had already helped us achieve success in this PAC space.
I've found working with Select Medical on their website a rewarding process. They're keen to try new ideas and, as a freelance web developer, it's always nice to work with like-minded people who value your suggestions and expertise.
From the very start we had consideration for all the stakeholders in this market. They were after all at the core of our business. With the re-brand we articulated this consideration for the Care Provider, Carer and Cared For into our C3 philosophy. Our core values underpinned this C3 ethos;
Honest…and straight forward
We wanted to give a clear focus to our strategy for the world to see and our growing number of employees. We apply these values both internally, to create a positive work environment, and externally, to ensure we look after the needs of all our C3 stakeholders.
This re-imagining of our values was accompanied with new product development and the launch of our Pure Air, Simpulse and OLA brands. We uniquely positioned ourselves with a range of brands to reflect the different buying profiles, level of experience and environments of all our C3’s. We understood that one brand does not suit all and that whilst efficacy can’t ever be substituted, we can play tunes with balancing upfront costs with long-term value for money.
Our re-branding and new products received a positive response from the market. Buoyed by this success and with further investment in R&D, we soon followed with our Pure Air Extra Care range, providing specialised surfaces to meet individual care needs.
In 2018 we launched our innovative crossover mattress, Flexi by Pure Air. This unique surface, coupled with our growing reputation for quality products, helped cement our new partnership with leading hospital bed manufacturer, Hill-Rom. Flexi hit the ground running with a surge in sales gained from 2 hospital contracts in the UK and Europe.
The bedrock for our partnership has been SM's open and honest approach. They always play with a straight bat and this transparency makes dealings with them simple and smooth.
As we start 2020, Select Medical is in a strong position. Our R&D team continue to both innovate and renovate with some exciting plans for the year ahead that will help us lead the way in PAC. Watch this space!
Our workforce has grown steadily, and this is set to continue. As we employ experts in their fields, our internal systems and processes continue to be refined and improved. We are currently working towards ISO 13485 accreditation which we hope to gain in 2020. Financial investment in our recently deployed Microsoft Dynamics ERP system is ongoing, helping transform how we connect with our clients and bringing numerous efficiency savings.
Our servicing arm is making inroads into the NHS, winning several ongoing service contracts across the UK. We are building on our achievements of the last few years where we made the finals of the NHS in the North Excellence in Supply Awards 2 years in succession.
Investment across the organisation will continue helping Select Medical expand our sales and service. The new decade is bright and will absolutely be built on our C3 philosophy, tending to the needs of all stakeholders across this very complex market.
Select Medical always deal with our community patients with compassion and integrity. They provide a valuable service, both in and out of hours, that we know we can rely on.
We will continue to leverage our impact in the space by partnering with strategic allies, bringing scale to our business. Partners who are expert in acute and expert in community. This allows us to invest in innovation.
We have a unique relationship with SM which allows the Trusts we serve to benefit from their expertise. Clinical staff gain from proven, long-lasting mattresses and cushions and are supported by SM with education and training. This makes for a hassle-free contract delivery.
This in turn leaves us nimble enough to provide for the often forgotten and massively diverse long-term care sector, Elsie’s needs are just as important to us as the needs of a 1000 bed acute trust.
I would like to thank you for all your help and kindness when looking for a pressure cushion for my husband. I received such wonderful attention and help that it has restored my faith in humanity. My husband has been waiting for an air flow cushion for 10 weeks and still no news. I visited your premises and came home with a cushion to try and it has made his quality of life so much better.
